WENDIGO LAKE – DARE PROJECT

The program is designed to promote family permanency and address behavioural challenges arising from complex trauma, attachment and substance abuse. The family-like program format offers the maximum opportunity to develop and practice the skills that will enable a triumphant return to a community-based permanency placement.

The program is 90 days, with the opportunity for the young person to request to stay longer to continue treatment and to facilitate appropriate reintegration planning. With the support of the staff team, students are engaged in all aspects of home life, including menu planning, shopping, cooking, cleaning, laundry and operating within a budget. Students participate in planning the schedule of therapeutic programming and adventurous activities, negotiating the use of television, internet, telephone and games and practicing holding themselves and others accountable appropriately. There is no level system, and students work towards their goals through regular individual, group and family counselling and frequently documented personal feedback.
